Feel The Thunder Feel The Thunder

Each year Custer State Park holds a buffalo roundup for the management of the park buffalo herd.  This roundup is held in conjunction with the Custer State Park Arts Festival featuring artists from the Black Hills and surrounding areas.  The title of the roundup is called "Feel The Thunder" because you can literally feel the ground shake as the herd goes by.  The Buffalo is a majestic creature and seems very docile from outward appearances.  However, one must respect this giant of the plains.  My sister, April, in one of her finest paintings on a Buffalo Drum has beautifully captured this giant creature.

Price:  $425.00

Drum Making Techniques Drum Making Techniques

Gloria, my wife, makes the drums through her extensive experience in the field of music where April, my sister, is the artist and painter of the drums.  These drums are made in our little wood shop high in the Black Hills of South Dakota.  Gloria, in the construction of the drum ties the back of the Buffalo Drum to preserve the authenticity of the drum.  All drums are completely hand made.

Buffalo Hunter Buffalo Hunter

The Buffalo Hunter depicts the plains Indian and his primary means of maintaining a living.  The lines in the Buffalo Drum illustrate the flying hair as they would ride their horses rounding up the buffalo.

Great Snowy Owl Great Snowy Owl

One of my Sister's finest paintings was the Great Snowy Owl of Alaska on a Buffalo Drum.  In this painting, she outlined the owl and the white color of the owl is the actual bleached head skin of the drum.  The picture is penetrating as one views it.
